The Rap I believe that music can touch you in a way almost no other art form can, at least art forms you experience rather than create. Often a book, or film, or painting will touch you, will make you happy, sad or any extreme of emotion in between, but not necessarily in a personal wauy that relates specifically to you. But music, well it can be personal, a song, its music or its lyrics can mean something, can trigger a huge personal emotional response. That's what this page is about, songs, albums, words that mean something to me, because of a time...a place...a person...an experience... a feeling....or a mixture of some or all of these! Sent by Floyd (1/7/02) This was one of the tracks i spent ages learning with my Tribute band Pigs On The Wing. The lyrics blow me away, very typical Roger Waters in places and trade mark Gilmour. Waters has a lot of hang ups about people in general I think and you can really see in his writing that he is quite cynical and ready to critisize the habits and actions of people. Where as Gilmour brings the calm and acceptance to the song. A lot like his writing in the Division Bell. Personally I love the instrumental qualities of the track. One minute it’s a head rush of sharp guitar and keyboards that sound like they are trying to break out of the CD and then it all calms down to a loose jazz keys kinda groove with just Rick Wright tapping out a feeling of a lazy day listening to the birds and looking at the blue sky. I love it.. takes you right up there, makes your mind so busy hearing it all. You feel a rush with each overdriven guitar chord and then ‘sigh’…..as if its just been smothered in gaviscon :o) top track. It's an album filled with optimism, good vibes, and melodies that take hold better than any strain of flu. The lyrics tend to describe someone taking a chance, following their heart, and starting a new life with someone else. Which isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it's mine, and that's all that matters to me. A weird choice for me, really. I guess I'd normally choose an album that had been playing during some cosmically fantastic event in my life (which would have made Lost Horizons by Lemon Jelly my choice). The Last Broadcast has kinda been a general soundtrack to things going on in my life recently, and they've all been good. And Pounding is one of my Top 5 songs ever, which is handy :) More coming.........
